This half-day workshop, part of the ANLEA conference to be held at the University of Orléans from June 10 to 12, 2026, aims to examine how democracy is transmitted and perceived at the university level, through teaching, institutional discourse, participatory mechanisms, and the student experience. It is primarily intended for researchers in the fields of Applied Foreign Languages and encourages proposals focusing on different geographical areas, in order to compare university models and democratic practices in diverse contexts.

Proposals may address one or more of the following themes:

– Transmission of democratic values: reflection on how these values are integrated into the content of courses taught in Applied Foreign Languages, into teaching practices, or into student support programs.

– Reception and appropriation of democratic norms promoted by the university: analysis of perceptions, forms of adherence, distance or resistance by a largely multicultural audience of LEA students.

Representation, participation, and governance: This study examines the institutional mechanisms that enable student expression and representation, as well as the associated issues of legitimacy and effectiveness. It may also include the analysis of institutional discourse and university communication, observing the messages produced by universities regarding citizenship, participation, transparency, and community life, and how these messages are disseminated.

– Contrastive analysis of practices: This study will explore proposals covering different geographical areas to highlight convergences, divergences, exchanges, transfers, and adaptations of democratic university models.

– Impact of public policies: This analysis will examine higher education reforms and their effects on student participation, governance, and perceptions of democracy within the university.
